Fairness....

"Life ain't fair!!"

That's something I'm sure all of us have heard before. We hear this when something doesn't go our way. We hear this when we don't get our way. We hear this when we hear of some unjustice. Today was a pretty tiring day at work. Very tiring actually. And I totally felt unjustly treated, and was kind of upset that I didn't get my way. What happened is there are four new workers that came in with me to start working this summer. Two of us know our stuff, work hard, and always finish our work for the day well before schedule. Another one works hard but is a bit slow, and therefore a bit unproductive. The last one is slow and just totally slacks off. I'm sure you all know someone like that. Talks a lot when they're supposed to be working. Takes extra long lunches and breaks. Takes a long time to do assigned work and you end up covering their butts every day. So anyways, that's ok, I don't mind that all. As long as I finish my work, and do the best darn job I can do, I'm totally happy.

Today, I got in and I'm pulling up my work for the day, and this is the note I get: "James will be doing basic inputting all day long. XXX will be taking all his calls instead for the rest of the day." Now let me explain. Usually, there's a certain amount of work needed to be done everyday, and the four of us work together to finish it. My buddy and I usually speed through it so that by 1:00, we're usually pretty much finished. So we end up doing double the work the two "slower" ones do. After the daily work is done, the boring stuff is brought out (ie. inputting.) Stuff like data entry, doing checks and tests and all sorts of dull work. So you can imagine my reaction when I learned that all of MY daily work was being taken away and given to the slower person, just so that they could have more practice and learn to work harder. "Life ain't fair!!" You got that right!!

What did Jesus have to say about all this? Was it fair the way they laughed at Him when He taught them? Was it fair the way they chose a murderer to be set free instead of Him, a righteous man? Was it fair how they mocked and beat Him, in return for His love? Life ain't fair. Live with it. Jesus did.

Just to finish the story off on a good note. My boss ended up rescuing me from my inputting and ended up pairing me up with our IT guy and I ended up working on installing new network stuff and working with the physical network, so I really ended up learning a lot. If I had been busy making calls to clients and stuff, I don't think he would have asked me to do that, and I would have really missed out. God works in funny ways. Just gotta learn not to be so "sieuw hay" (little air) about "unfair" things.
