Back at work.. Surprise, surprise, I'm blogging at work again. This is regularly becoming my weekly update to the world, admist my busy weekly work, committees, meetings, library dates with my homework, etc, etc. My phone bill is racked up full of calls to meet up during the day, I don't end up studying or staying alone much anymore, and everything is so busy. But overall, it's been a really sweet week. Met lots of really cool people, (I feel more like a frosh meeting all these people) and have been making some really sweet friends lately. Got a really good position in charge of obtaining sponsors for a student society, so I'm meeting a lot of the big corporate execs, and hopefully will be able to maintain the connections and relations with them until my inevitable job search. School's going really well; I'm actually able to read ahead for all my lectures (staying up until wee hours to do it!!) and I'm doing really well so far, so that's good. I was looking at posters at the UT poster sale, and it was really cool how people have such different perceptions of the same image. I was with my buddy and I would be like "Whoa, that's so neat!" and she'd be like "What the? What is it?!" I'd tell her what I saw and she would think it's nothing like what I saw and vice versa. What we each saw in the pictures, the other person sometimes didn't. I think this is the root of a lot of relational conflicts. I'm studying human resources and one of the courses I'm taking we're examining conflict management, and I realize that a lot of problems I have with people or arguements or disagreements, all arise because we see the same situation in a different light. It's selfish to say they don't see things the way I do, but I also don't see things the way they do either. Misunderstandings I'm sure you've all experienced can ruin a lot of really sweet relationships. Just want to encourage you to try looking at things from the other point of view and to try to see the bigger picture before making a rational decision regarding your actions. Just something I learned this week from my text. Busy weekend full of mixers, parties, CCF, bro's coming back home, maybe university fair, bbqs, meeting up with people, and of course, the always-popular date again with my textbooks. Have a good one!! posted by jamescl | 2:02 PM
