So Cold...

Yesterday's CCF was a sandwhich run, and it was something I haven't really done in a while (since last year.) It's something I used to do a lot the past couple years since I lived downtown, but haven't really gotten a chance to since I'm back uptown. I realize I really miss doing it. It cost us $20 to make enough sandwhiches to feed 40/50 people. That's less than 50 cents a person. Anyways, as we were walking from St. George and College, to Yonge, then down to Queen, and back up to St. G/College, it was really cold. We were probably only out there for an hour and a half or so, but when we came back in, our hands were frozen, cheeks flushed, and ears red. Quite a few people were complaining about how cold and unbearable it was. I just remarked at how if we're out there for a little over an hour and complaining, think of how the homeless people feel as they live out there. We saw this lady building a fort out of old cardboard boxes, so she wouldn't have to sleep in the wind. Different people told us heart-breaking stories about landing in Toronto in hopes of a job, only to wind up living out in the streets without friends or a job. One man wisely retorted when we told them we were a Christian fellowship, "Where's Jesus now, and what's He doing to help me?!"

There's no answer you can give without further offending them. No words that would be adequate and sufficient to fill their void. One can only continue to love the lost and continue to dilligently serve them. To experience the cold with them, and to venture into their world, instead of complaining about the weather. If anyone's interested in continuing the sandwhich runs on a weekly basis in downtown Toronto, let me know.
