Hunched Back With A Cane ...

As quickly as the holidays have come, so too has it been swept away. It seems like just a couple days ago I was enjoying the white Christmas and already, I'm back to school. Had a lotta really good talks lately with some old "ketchup" friends. Also took my little cousins skating and skiing and that was a lot of fun. It made me kind of feel like an "uncle" though, since a lot of time was spent doing little things, like helping them lace their skates and coaxing them to take one more bit of their hotdog - stuff that parents usually do. My dad kind of told me privately too that he's really seen me mature lately and sees me as an adult now. Now that's kind of scary.

Another sign of aging: all your friends are starting to find life partners. Had a couple interesting conversations with a couple of my single guy friends about just having a girlfriend, and the pressures associated with it. Two very contrasting opinions from the both of them as one was starting to get ansty about not having one, while the other was feeling blessed. I guess I'm content that I'm single; I've realized that if I had a girlfriend, a lot of things in my life would be very different. I probably would be doing worse in school, spending less time doing the things I enjoy, and having more worries and stress. So many times I just get caught up in the whole "Look how happy they look" thinking that I neglect the "It's a lot of work" aspect. I guess it really is a blessing in disguise.

Lastly, I definitely feel older as my activities are changing as I get older. Long gone are those juvenile days of bubbletea, arcades and malls. And I'm realizing I'm starting to outgrow the whole clubbing scene and other university activities. Give me a book and a Starbucks on a nice patio or a good companion and a smooth jazz cafe anyday. When I was talking over the weekend with my high school friends, I've realized that activities and venues are so different now. Even resteraunts are different now - Jack Astors and McDs have been replaced by Milestones and O'Gradys.

My relatives from San Fran came to visit, and I haven't seen them in three years. I guess they put it best: "Next time we see you, you'll be balding and have a hunched back", they joked. Errr, at least I hope they were joking. Anyways, old man needs his sleep (so what if it's 10 o'clock?!!) Nites.
