Blistex Vs. Softlips... Ah, Shoppers Drug Mart. My never ending source of information about girly products. So I was just there a few minutes ago, in search of a totally foreign object: chapstick. You see, wearing my newly acquired mouthguard (see a few posts back) causes my tongue to stay inside my mouth, meaning I can't lick my lips which left my lips extremely chapped. It's been so bad that for the past few days, my lips started swelling up and was noticeably bad today, so I decided that I had to go purchase some much-needed chapstick/lipbalm (is there a difference?!) So after a quick browse, I arrive at the chapstick section, which contained at least 25 different types of chapstick. Where do I even begin?!! After consultation with a couple girl friends via cell phone, I had it narrowed down to two: Blistex and Softlips. Now for you uneducated guys out there, let me paint you the picture. Blistex is medicated, supposedly bland tasting, works quickly and efficiently; a no-nonsense type of chapstick. Satisfaction guaranteed. In contrast, Softlips (which comes in lovely baby pink, baby peach and baby blue tubes, among other girly colours) is tasty, gentle on your skin, and "helps you attain soft and supple lips." There was much persuading to go Softlips, since it was highly recommended and utilized by my friends. And who could resist soft, supple lips? On the other hand, how could I turn down the machoism and masculinity that Blistex represented? There I was, torn between the two tubes, one in each hand, each begging me to purchase it. (Who says advertising and packaging don't work?) After a sales lady had asked me for the second time if I needed help, my machismo won out and I took the Blistex. And let me tell you, it was definitely the right choice. It's so fizzy and makes my lips feel like light, pleasant burning. Beware swelling lips! Beware!!
