Unionville Festival...

As a dutiful citizen of a SARS-stricken community, I've decided to write about my weekend adventures at the Unionville festival in an attempt to presuade the masses to venture outdoors again. (OK, so I ran out of blogging topics.) I've been going to Unionville festival for 6 years in a row now and absolutely love it. Little vendors and shops are set up all along Carlton and Main St. in Unionville selling all sorts of exotic and unique items from stain glass sculptures to hand-knit dolls to curry fish balls (which coincidentally are becomming increasingly popular with the continued Markham invasion of Chinese people.)

Early in the morning, we went to grab breakfast at the booths that little independent local resteraunts had set up along Main St. and watched the parade as clowns, children, cheerleaders, unicyclists, firemen, hockey players, and many many more pleasant, provocative and peculiar people paraded playfully past us. (Please pause here and wipe your screen if you've been reading along outloud.)

Van and I went to go sponsor little yellow rubber duckies for the duck race and watched as they floated quickly down the bathtub that is Toogood River and as many yellow-clad volunteers scampered to retrieve the ducks. It was quite the sight. We went along sampling food, listening to live bands, checking out vendors and booths, and pretty much basking (aka. burning) in the sun. And to cap off a wonderful day, we watched mezmorized, complete with oohs-and-ahhs, as the fireworks lit the sky above us and sprinkled down onto where we were lying below.

Unionville festival everybody, don't let SARS keep you at home. (But um, since this year is over, go next year!)

Pics to come shortly.
