Shut Down... ![]() It seems that Y2K came three years too late. It was eerily straight out of a movie as for 12 precious hours, with most of the North American Eastern Seaboard declared in a state of emergency, we were shut down. It's as if God had taken the switch that turned the world on and off, and flicked it off. It's one of those infamous days where people will forever say, "I remember what I was doing during the 03 blackout..." I myself was blissfully playing softball (as I had luckily taken the day off) and didn't find out about the outage until over an hour later as we went to McD's to get some ice cream. The manager informed us that power was gone and all shops were closed and advised us to go home before it got dark. After trying to use our cell phones to call home (to no avail for all cell companies except my Fido!!) we all scampered home quickly. It was quite an interesting ride home as my gas light had already gone on earlier and none of the pumps were working. My hero mother decided she didn't want any of the expensive food in the fridge to go to waste, so using a camping kerosene stove, she proceded to cook up a storm. Went to go throw around and chat at the park, came home, showered, talked on the phone a bit, and turned in at 10:30. Everyone's been saying how boring it was during those long blackout hours, but in a way, I think it was God's way of telling us to slow down and take a break. For half a day, no one was on Icq, there was no one watching TV, no stocks being traded, no TTC ran, and 0 members on AA (ok, except for all those people from BC and Cali.) I think we needed this break amidst our busy lives. There were a lot of things that have happened over the past 48 hours that I really needed to stop and think about. But my days were booked solid and I had so much to do, and so little time to do it. I feel as if God puposely shut everything down to tell me to stop and spend time reflecting and not being so distracted by all the razz and dazz of the bright city lights. Anyways, it's 8am, I have no work to go to, the day is young and I'm gonna enjoy it. Hope y'all have a great relaxing weekend. posted by jamescl | 7:41 AM
