Snow...

I suppose everyone loves the snow. It's soft n' fluffy, cool n' sleek, and is melt-in-your mouth goodness. I mean, what's not to like? People play on it, ski on it, heck, even fish over it. It's common associations are the ever-lovable snowman (with it's fun top hat, cute carrot nose along with all the fixings), the ever-fun snowball fight and ever-beautiful snow angel. One can even argue that the wonderful winter whiteouts generate millions of dollars to our economy through such booming seasonal industries as snow plowing, ski resorts, tow trucks, and even zamboni drivers. Snow, what a wonderful thing.

Well, I'm here to educate once and for all the ever-real effects of snow. For all it's coolness and sleekness, there's also the ever-abundant mushy brown snow - the ugly kind that usually slushes up and covers up the nice snow. There's the (here comes the word of the day) ever-popular yellow snow - the kind that you should never eat - as well as the wet snow - the kind that makes you all wet and causes your car to crash and you to die. (It's true I tell ya.) There's also the Abominable Snowman and the Snow Devil (I swear I didn't make it up) to rival all your favourite characters. And for all you die-hard economists out there, don't even get me started on all the money it loses through sickness and absenteeism, accidents and death, and business closures due to storms. And I haven't even started getting into the ever-annoying (are the ever-xx getting "ever-annoying" yet?) salt stains that inhabit the bottom of your pants or the 4-hour skid-fest commutes. Snow, what a terrible thing.

Now you may be asking why I, an obvious lover of snow, (as one can deduce from the snowflakes fluttering on this very page) have become so cold (no pun intended) to the fluffy little fellow. Let's just say that two straight days of getting up early and commuting downtown for classes, only to discover they've been cancelled - again, let me emphasis the two straight days - can turn one's spirits quickly. Moreover, a 4 to 5 hour commute (especially for an impatient driver such as myself) will do nothing to warm the heart. And as icing on the cake, coming home to a driveway that resembles a mini-Everest after a long day of driving - and then remembering that you have to stand outside in the freezing cold to rid yourself of this mountain - will certainly not help to cheer one's mood.

I'm not bitter. I swear I'm not. But if I go down again tommorrow for class and discover they are cancelled....I'm going to be ever-so pissed.

PS. I'm really not bitter, I swear. I have a 6-day weekend, lots of spare time (for watching such fine films as "Johnny English" and "Seabiscuit" - which was surprisingly very um, decent) and no school. What's not to love?
