Just a Cheeseburger...

So today, I met all my faculty and classmates and saw the place where I'll be at pretty much every day for the next year. And let me tell you, it was truthfully quite intimidating.

Everyone in the program is a genius, bred for the sole purpose of studying and succeeding accademically. One of my good new friends claims she feels stupid as she only graduated with an 84 from Waterloo, and boy do I feel stupid.

The analogy I feel is most appropriate is that of a cheeseburger. It's like we're all cheeseburgers - some of the best and brightest from our undergraduate programs. From Newfoundland to Manitoba to BC, these cheeseburgers have been owning the hamburgers for the past four years. And now, today, this cheeseburger has discovered that in our cruel and fateless world, there are actually Big Macs. Big Macs made not only of the extra coating of gooey cheese that seperates the cheeseburger from the lowly hamburger, but an extra patty, a sesame bun and yes, even the dreaded secret sauce.

So as I walked around our new offices, I saw about 15 of the 20 students already hard at work, reading their pre-bought books - books that were bought before they even registered in the classes - on the first day of orientation (note that classes have not begun yet!).

Looks like I'll be spending a lot of time studying this year. Off to bed to wake up early and study, thus to begin the transformation from cheeseburger to BigMac.

Disclaimer: No Big Macs were hurt or consumed in the production of this joural.
