A Touch of Nostalgia...

UTCCF grad din 04

There's a certain twist of nostalgia for me whenever I enter into a place of the past, such as an old school (no pun intended) or a place of familiarity of the past. So yesterday, I set out to visit my old high school, Unionville. Something about walking past those old pink lockers and passing by those old physics stools where four precious years of my adolescence disappeared brings back warm memories.

After conversing briefly with some old teachers and touring the new sections of the buildings, I set off downtown to UT for the first time since my convocation last year. Being an old-school kind of guy, I parked my car in the same spot as I had my last year, walked to the same buildings as in past classes, and visited old hangouts as per my storied four years at the institution.

Everything from the familiar odours of "Wokking on Wheels" outside Robarts to hordes of pigeons swarming next to the hotdog vendors (the same ones for the past 5 years) to feel of the Robarts cubicles as I studied reminded me of the past. After meeting up with old professors and catching up with old friends, I headed to CCF for fellowship. I must say it's been amazing how they've grown and a blessing to hear about their retreat. Going into CCF, I was expecting to know little to no one as many had forewarned me that the demographics were completely different. But seeing old face after old face with warm greetings and familiar smiles really made my evening. And to complete the evening, I went out with four of my favourite CCF boys to Sushi Inn (home to countless lunches and dinners throughout my tenure there) for dinner, stopped by ET fellowship and took Tim home. Just like old times. Like nothing had ever changed in 10 months.

Sometimes, when you're caught up in the everyday and the now, you forget about the past. For me, it's always bittersweet to take a step back and relive the days of the old. Thanks to all for making it special and a wonderful day.
